Storage and Transportation Best Practices
Home Storage Setup
Designate a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture. Ideal temperature: 15-25°C (59-77°F) with humidity below 60%.
Battery Storage Protocol
Store LiPo batteries at 50-60% charge in fireproof bags or LiPo safety boxes. Never leave batteries fully charged for extended periods (degrades cells).
Drone Storage Position
Remove gimbal cover and propellers for long-term storage. Store drone horizontally in original foam case or padded compartment to prevent gimbal stress.
Case Selection
Hard-shell cases (Pelican, Nanuk) offer maximum protection for travel. Backpack-style cases provide portability for hiking locations. Custom foam cutouts prevent movement.
Travel Preparation
Remove batteries from drone and controller. Store batteries in carry-on luggage (never checked baggage—airline regulation). Print battery mAh specs in case security asks.
International Travel
Research destination drone laws 2-3 weeks before travel. Register drone if required. Carry documentation: purchase receipt, registration, insurance. Download offline maps of permitted zones.
Car Transportation
Secure case in trunk or back seat with seatbelt. Avoid leaving equipment in hot cars (interior temps can exceed 60°C/140°F). Remove batteries if parking for extended periods.
Hiking and Remote Locations
Use backpack cases with proper weight distribution. Bring lens cloth for dirty conditions. Pack extra batteries (cold reduces capacity). Consider portable solar chargers for multi-day trips.
Organization System
Label cables, memory cards, and batteries with colored tape or numbers. Keep spare parts kit: extra propellers, screws, ND filters. Maintain equipment checklist.
Insurance Considerations
Document serial numbers and purchase receipts. Take photos of equipment before travel. Consider specialized drone insurance for expensive gear or commercial use.
